Beading Forum Swap
As I had mentioned earlier I participated in a beading forum swap where I needed to make a bracelet for a member inspired by art using seed beads.
I really struggled with finding inspiration with an idea that worked, so I went to my bead stash to find my inspiration. I chose a cab made by Dani at The Whimsical Bead. I based everything from there.I used peyote. Time was getting quite tight towards the end so I had to do some during the day, Jakey was very excited when I finished the “puzzle beads bracelet”
I received this beautiful beaded cuff off Lynn, she is an incredibly talented beader, do check her blog out! Lyndsays Creative Journey
I just love the detail that has gone into this!

I’ve now started some new things, all pretty simple because my new books should arrive by the end of the month!
I chose the beaded garden, which I’ve wanted for ages so really excited about this one. I also got mastering beadwork-a comprehensive guide to off loom techniques & Masters beadweaving:Major Works by Leading Artists. Of course i have lots more on my wish list!

My designer quest entry
So this is what I did, thrown together literally in the final hours, had I of left it until the boys were asleep it wouldn’t have happened as I had quite the grumpy baby boy last night, so we snuggled in bed while I did some beading reading! I’m really quite disapointed in this. It was not my original idea & this was my best idea other than that, which was a time consuming beautiful piece with wire, but it just didn’t happen.
ALthough I am disapointed with this particular piece I was still happy the pack pushed my beading boundries & sent me into unknown territory. That is the aim of them, so although the end result was epic fail in my mind, it was fun to challenge myself with wire.
I have been very quiet, but I’ve also been working on a swap on the beading forum, which is seedie. I know what I’m doing but unfortunately the stitch I am doing the main part with just happens to be the one stitch that although I love doing makes me sleepy which isn’t such a great mix! I’m just hoping my mental picture of what it will look like is the same as what the fisnished piece looks like. The person I’ve been paired up with is an incredibly talented seed beader so I have felt a wee bit intimidated because I still see myself as such a newbie with seed beading.
I also have a couple of planned projects so I am a very busy beader at the moment, but thats just the way I want it to be

Slowly steadily
I have been busy! First there’s my designer quest entry, which should be starting to be in completed stages, instead it fell apart so have to pull that apart & restart. Instead its sitting in a pile waiting. I spent so so so many hours so when it fell apart I was gutted, which is why I haven’t restarted it. But I know where I went wrong & how to fix it. The designer quest is to try & push your boundaries & that I am, I think!
I signed up also for a seedie swap on the beading forum, where I have to create a bracelet for another member with my inspiration being “art” I have my inspiration & now just have to begin. I do not have success writing my ideas down so I’m kind of letting this idea build & grow mentally. I do hope I can pull it off.
Theres also an idea I have for a necklace which I have been working on for a few weeks, but I haven’t gotten very far due to a teething baby. He’s now got 2 teeth & thinks its very interesting having these strange things poking out in his mouth, so hes been biting me when he should be feeding. Extremely painful, but yay for pumps!!
But of course with plenty of things to work on, the only thing to do is add a few more projects in!
These were made for a wedding, they are swarovski pearls on clip on earrings

These are a pair of earrings I made. They are plain crystal with purple seedies, which glows off the crystal, I really love the look of these. I would be wearing them if I thought our boys wouldn’t touch them!
& this is a set I made for my sister in law in 2008. I used sterling silver wire, swarovski crystals & these adorable little rose clasps, which I found matching charms for the earrings.

Growing
When I first started beading a little over 2 years ago & joined the beading forum & met the amazing talented women(& a few men) I was in such awe. I thought to bead was simply string a few beads & job done. I had no clue just how many mediums there were to beading. I was immediately drawn to seed beading. The first pieces I saw with seed beads really took my breath away. About 6months later I made my first seed beaded piece, a bracelet & then a cab. I have alot of beads-well to me I don’t have that many, hubby thinks I have heaps & they’re never ending. But as I delve more into the world of seedbeads I realize what a teeny tiny stash I really have. Theres so many different kinds of threads needed, thread conditioner, needle sizes, fabrics & this has not even begun with the seed beads themselves, which come in many different forms, the colors are well… theres so many, thousands.
Sometime this month hopefully I will be buying myself 3new books, all on these little critter beads. One is all about bead embroidery, because although I’ve made cabs & I have done alot of different stitches in ropes this is something I’m yet to try & it really calls me. I love how such small beads make a masterpiece & I can’t wait. I want to grow as much as possible with my beading & most importantly I hope to never stop learning new techniques so that I can constantly grow with my beads.

Big families
The average family household is 1.5, so at 3 dear boys I think we might be considered a big family, along with bigger families comes sick germs lingering. We have been rather unlucky picking up a tummy bug, which thankfully did not get picked up by Ryan, by time it got through the 2 boys it gave Tony & I time to recover from it enough to pick it up again, which had him in bed for 3 days. We finally seem on the mend though! Which means I can pull my pretty beads out again
Earlier this month I entered a competition on the beading forum done every 3-4months usually. You order 1 of 2 packs of beads & you have to try & create something using minimal other additions. Mine is coming along quite nicely. I will be able to show my entry at the end of March. Its something totally different to anything I have ever done, but oh I do love it!
I have not yet gotten around to uploading the new pieces off the camera, but I did discover an online editing program which is pretty funky. I did a play around with one of my pieces to create this, I quite like how it turned out
I will have some new things up very soon!

Passing beads down
I was about to to do a quick update when we heard the postie out front, so Jake & went down to see if we got anything. Much to my excitement a beading magazine I subscribed to late last year arrived, which I wasn’t expecting to arrive until next week. Jake was very excited, first he thought it was a cooking book, but that is very definitely not me! Then he realized they were beads. Mummy a bead book, come on lets go inside & open it. We got inside & he straight away had me opening it to flick through, bot that I have had a good look, but its so lovely that he shares my love for my beads. Even if he loses interest now hes our big boy its still wonderful! I also found a tutorial for something I’d love to try & a great challenge
& as for what I was really blogging about. I had a dream last night, about a piece I made, uploaded for sale & it sold. I know have to make said piece to see if it comes true

A working progress
Our little guy has been making his transition into the cot, which has made for some very long nights. But as you can see there is some progress. Hes becoming more settled with every night.
So to the busy beading catch up.
I made this for my son’s kindy, who will be celebrating their 30th year anniversary next month. They have asked for donations of jewellery to auction off. It was very hard knowing what to do, so I made this one hoping it might appeal to some of the mums & I also gave them some of my other pieces already made up.
I’ve been having a play with beaded rivolis & this has been the beginnings of a work in progress. I am yet to decide what to do as i still have some more to add.
& finally I have had this idea brewing in my head probably since around the time Ryan was born, so for about 5 months ago. There is some absolutely divine beadwork out there called “wearable art” Wikipedia’s description is “refers to individually designed pieces of (usually) hand-made clothing or jewelry created as fine or expressive art. While the making of any article of clothing or other wearable object typically involves aesthetic considerations, the term wearable art implies that the work is intended to be accepted as a serious and unique artistic creation or statement. Pieces may be sold and/or exhibited.” Now I haven’t officially started it as such, but I am learning some techniques that I will need to know how to do in order to do it. My inspiration is spring, but I won’t go so far as to say what it is in my mind because we all need surprises sometimes! BUT this is a wee little flower I did, I found a tutorial for it, but I only read it to get the concept, then i fumbled through it in my own way to give it my touch. Being a practise run the thread is very visible because I was expecting to unpick it. I am very happy with it otherwise. & I was extremely happy I mastered it first try!
Some more pieces coming soon
